Front Sight Project & Brain Fart!
« on: April 07, 2017, 11:52:17 AM »
I grabbed my "Plain Jane" Dickert style flintlock rifle to head off to the Range for some early morning practice when I noticed my front sight for some reason didn't look right? It looked to tall in conjunction with my low rear sight I have on this rifle? After studying it a bit it finally dawned on me that I had made and installed a new front brass sight on this rifle last Fall and I had never worked it down and never centered it true on the top flat.

Obviously I also never went to the Range to zero this rifle - and why I didn't, I have no idea?  Had I headed off to the Range without noticing this, I bet I'd of been a foot or better low and who knows how far left???

So, I've spent the last hour plus working down this front sight to where it should be close to where I want it, and I also dead centered it. I checked my rear sight as well (just to be sure) and it was centered, so apparently I didn't do anything to this rifle last Fall after making and "semi" installing a new front sight...

The sad part of all this is,,, the wind is now howling... Had I finished this front sight project last Fall, I could've checked the zero on this flintlock and had some fun doing it - dang it!  :Doh!

Wonder if I forgot any other Fall projects....  :P

Your woes jogged my memory Joe as I have to replace the front sight on my Isaac Haines (Chambers) rifle.  I find it too thin to see well, but I think I'll wait until the shooting season is over before I order a new one, fit it. sight it in, etc.

My gums and my hairline are in a race to see which can recede the fastest. Right now, it's the hairline by a forehead.  :lol sign

Well I did!  :laffing  For another one of my flintlocks, I had purchased a new rear sight from TOTW, and last night while tinkering in my workshop I came across it. Took care of that job this morning!  :bl th up I woke up at 4:00am and had nothing else to do except drink coffee, so it was a good time to take care of that project.  :bl th up

When I was 37 I had fever one time of 105F; went down before they had to pack me in ice. Week later when combing my hair it came out in handfuls! Now....I've lost so much it takes me all day to wash my face!! :Doh! :o

It's gravity, I tell ya!  When I was a lot younger I had a full head of hair, thin facial hair and no  hair on my chest.  Now I have little on top, a full beard and even a bunch on my chest and back.  Gravity just pulls it downward...  :lol sign
