First Pistol
« on: November 11, 2018, 03:44:16 PM »
I jumped into the flintlock pistol world and picked up a .50 cal Hawken flintlock, Siler lock, 10" Oregon barrel, poured pewter nose cap, single set trigger, maple stock. Should be fun working up a load and learning to shoot it. [ Invalid Attachment ]

The people there at the Gun Works (OR) are good people and know their stuff.
Looks like a good transaction.

It's really a pleasure to shoot. I did change the front sight to a silver blade. I seem to see this better. Been in the middle of deer season so haven't so been through all the load combos I want to try. I do know it will take a lot of practice to get accurate off hand.

I'm still practicing with my Rendezvous pistol, Paul - and I've had it 20+ years! I'm getting closer each year (I think)... :P

They are fun to shoot, and they can be a tester for folks like me who's shooting is 99.9% rifle. We've got monthly postal matches this coming year with some pistol shoots, so I'm hoping to solve "my" front sight woes that simply have confounded me for years.  If the matches don't help,,, well I'll keep trying.  :toast :shake

Joe, Are revolvers acceptable in the postal matches or not?

No reason why not. We should incorporate the "As Issued" sight rule to keep everything on an even keel.  :bl th up

YaY!!  That means I can use the famous patented Col. Colt's disappearing rear revolver sight.
That's the hammer. :applaud :applaud

Pull the trigger and the rear sight disappears. :Doh!
