upgrades on my old mountain rifle

This is The CVA mountain rifle I put together from a kit  over 30 years ago.  I gave it to my eldest son when we started going to rendezvous together.  I just finished installing an L&R replacement lock and redoing the metal and wood finish.  I think he is going to be pleased with the results.

Always felt those CVA Mountain Rifles were very good rifles.  Back in the day (as they say) money was a bit tight, but those CVA's could be had for a lot less then the Lyman and Thompson Center style Hawken Rifle's.  Sure, you'd get a broken Lock spring every once in a'while, but Turner Kirkland (Dixie Gun Works) always came through for me if I needed one. Those were shining times. A pound of powder could be had for about $4.00 a pound... It's been an enjoyable life long hobby, that's for sure.

Accurate indeed!  Lots of deer fell to that rifle.  After 30 plus years the old lock started to fail.  It should be good now for at least another 30 years.  Ah, the days when we could walk into just about any sporting goods store and get a pound of black powder for $4.00  I sure miss that.
