    ATTENTION! 1 Skunk WAS Harmed in the Making of this Bullet/Patch Lube

My wife is on Vacation so i decided to make up some Bullet Lube, I have been wanting to try this for quite sometime but I haven’t had enough “Alone at home” Time to try it, and get everything Cleverly Cleaned up, Opportunity Knocked this Morning so i jumped on it


Split straight down the Back Bone from Base of Head to Base of Tail, Skin each side over, Then Trim all the Fat Off. They are FAT this time of Year 


The Bounty 


I made me a Home made Double Boiler setup. This was actually the Riskiest part of the Entire Project, If my wife knew i was using her BRAND NEW Kitchen Range for this endeavor, I may well of been looking for a new Place to Hang my Hat  This is why Today was the PERFECT Day, She Won’t be Home til Late tonight, The Job is now Done, And Mess Cleaned up 


Finished Product, Just a Pinch of Beeswax and Lanolin to “Tack it up” From here i will make Slight adjustments, if it’s even needed? This Stuff is SLICK, I like it a BUNCH!

This has become my “Go to” Patch Lube, it works Fellas, and Works DARN Good! ZERO Smell, The only Smell detectable is the Lanolin i used.

Same as what he said! But I will just add that you are a brave man to boil up skunk fat on yur bride's cooking stove... ...I wouldn't attempt that even if I was already looking fur a way out...I would rather be scalped alive with a dull butter knife...

I will add that it looks mighty nice...

I guess it's something like mink oil, then.  But I'd rather fight with a mink than a skunk.

Just finished a re-read of Ned Roberts' "The Muzzle-loading Caplock Rifle" after 25 years or so.  He mentioned some people using skunk oil, so it's not a new idea!

Reminds me of a guy who shot with the Forest Hills Black Powder Brigade in Oregon when I was a member.  He told of driving to rendezvous one day, with his decrepit van and lodge poles tied on top.  There, in the road, lay a fresh road-kill skunk, in prime condition.  He figured he could skin it and make a dandy hat, so he stops.  His buddy with him grabbed a plastic bag and they proceed to pick the thing up and drop it in the bag.  About this time, a Cadillac pulls up.  The lady driver looks at them, hands out a $20 bill and says "here boys, go buy a real meal!"

I was having lunch with friends yesterday and eating roadkill came up. The thought of roadkill skunk, however, is further than I can go. Cannot imagine how a roadkill skunk could be "pristine"...just saying...

We use to have a guy that came to Rendezvous (I bet Rondo knows who I'm talking about) any way he went by the handle of "Skunk" - even wore a skunk hat.

He were known to pick up dead road kill skunk and make (at least a hat) from them... Don't know if he et 'em, but I'll say one thing for ol' Skunk - he sure made some darn good camp coffee!!!

While you guys are dining at the "Roadkill Cafe", I'm still curious how Idaholewis dispatched his skunk. His "Trophy" is definitely not roadkill. As a teen, it was my experience a headshot skunk will still spray.

I will second that question from Nessmuk...how do you come by a trophy pristine skunk without being totally skunked?

Pristine roadkill skunk, the same as the pristine roadkill squirrel which ran under my truck and got his head clipped by the frame.  No visible damage, but he was still very dead!
