Over at "Chadron Fur Trade Days" Rendezvous they offer a primitive archery shoot.

They make no provisions for choice of bow & arrow - in place of throwing hawk, and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't go over very good out here,,, but (to my knowledge) it's never came up as our Match Competitions are all individual, and not part of any overall Aggregate.  :shake

We used to run archery events in our aggregate and individual competitions, and would provide a bow and arrows for people without them to use. This became too expensive and folks wouldn't buy their own equipment. So as of now, we don't do it. If interest ever arises enough again, and folks came prepared with equipment or cash, we would gladly include them again. We even went so far as to commission inexpensive bows to be made locally so that the cost would not be as high as previous years. Unfortunately we ended up losing money.

The hardest part of establishing the either or for the aggregate score was making both the Archery and K&H  the same difficulties so there was no sniveling about one being easier than the other, we the GRMM were the first to do this at our yearly rondy and it was a big hit and still we have close to 50% of shooters choosing archery, our old friend Fletcher was a huge advocate of getting this started!

And has anyone heard from Fletcher?  He hasn't been on here in a coon's age.  I've pm'ed him, even sent an email IIRC with no reply.  I hope he's okay....

Thank s for his web site!  He always seemed to be a really nice fellow as Joe said.  I guess that's what I miss not being on Facebook!

Kees, I have a bow and a dozen 'primitive' arrows both made by Fletch about 13/14 years ago.  :bl th up

I don't shoot his arrows very much, they're way too nice to get banged up on a bale of hay...really fancy with sinew on the anchor points and the white feathers..
But I do have a couple dozed Easton shafts with practice heads that I shoot when I am able to draw that bow.
50# used to be a walk in the park, a slow pull with an anchor behind the ear...nowadays I practically have to jump-start a measly little old 50#bow.
I keep one strung in the shop and every once in a great while, when I remember, I draw it a few times and that helps.

It's the many things we don't do that totally sets us apart.

The hickory bow Fletcher made me was a 46# and I too ordered a dozen arrows... Like you Russ, I'm very particular about them fine arrows & when and where I'll use them.  Also, anymore I have to work my way up to that 46# pull by using my other lighter bows - but once I get there, I'm good for the Summer... :bl th up
