CORONA ROLL CALL!!
« Reply #15 on: March 25, 2020, 08:15:37 PM »
Still self-quarantined, feeling fine, and working from home.

I feel like an ant in a world of grasshoppers as I watch all the TP hoarders in action. I've probably got more TP stashed in my pick-up than most people have at home. Many years as Scoutmaster taught me to never rely on the person assigned to bring the TP on the campout.

Would be a good time to work on some accoutrements, except for this dang work-from-home thing.
The trouble with doing things right the first time is no one realizes how hard it was.
Often, however, the following is more applicable.
I stand corrected, a position somewhat painful to achieve, but once there, is quite satisfying.

First week of a four week furlough. Kind of planned ahead or as soon as I caught wind. Recieved a 12" ,.40 barrel,a breechplug ,trigger in the mail today, got plenty of maple wood.  Trying new ethnic recipes weekly and enough books for a retired fella.
But most importantly, prayer.

But most importantly, prayer.

Isn't it strange that something so integral to our days has been skipped over completely.  Thanks for being bold enough to mention it.  Me too!!

All,  My wife Terry & I are in Florida until Apr. 15.  Thus far, public beaches here have been closed as are restaurants, shopping malls, and movie theaters.  We are fortunate enough to have no Covid-19 symptoms and have access to a private beach <100 yd. from our rented apartment:  Few people go there now, and those that do keep their distance.  We'll be taking the Auto Train to VA on Apr. 17, where we'll hole up in our compartment (has its own toilet) and bring our own food (for 2 reasons:  social distancing + Amtrak food is awful!).  The "adventure" begins once we're back in NY, where the virus has certainly made its presence known, but not so much in my county.  (The city of Kingston, where I live, had 21 cases as of 3/25/20.)  Hope you are healthy and stay that way!

for the most part, my family and local friends are all well - so far.  i expect that to change over the coming weeks.  it is what it is.

lots depends on the state yer in - and i don't mean personal state of body and mind.

my state is NJ, and is a bastion of left-wing socialists lead by an elitist governor who is more tyrant than politician.  i doubt there is a more anti-gun state than the swamps of jersey.

there are Huge Lessons for our nation to learn from this attack, both from government and citizen standpoints.

the mainstream media is the clear and present cause for the panic scare perpetrated to all Americans, supported and egged on by certain politicians.  all sensationalism and little fact.  they ALL need to be brought to task for their actions, but never will, as we've seen countless times in the past.  when you have lots of money, you have power, and when you have power, you have what's most important - Control.

most people don't understand what a virus is all about, and neither do most biologist scientists, but we DO know that what we DON'T know will kill us sure and quick.  all that we can do is be personally and socially responsible, and all that will do is slow down the cases of infection, which is a good thing so that not everyone is down for the count at the same time and the nation can continue ... gotta think about the big picture.

almost everyone will survive covid-19 and those who will die will be due to prior health issues and/or personal neglect.

the USA swine flu (another form of virus) killed an estimated 675,000 in 1918 and 13,000 in 2009.

As of March 25th, CDC report for COVID-19 in the USA ...

    Total cases: 54,453
    Total deaths: 737
Jurisdictions reporting cases: 54 (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)

Seasonal flu in the USA as reported via the CDC - just look at these numbers and put that into perspective with covid-19 ...

CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2018–2019 season included an estimated 35.5 million people getting sick with influenza, 16.5 million people going to a health care provider for their illness, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths from influenza. The number of influenza-associated illnesses that occurred last season was similar to the estimated number of influenza-associated illnesses during the 2012–2013 influenza season when an estimated 34 million people had symptomatic influenza illness.

that too many state governments have shut down NICS, gun and ammo stores and sales, shooting ranges, is reprehensible and unconstitutional.  these tyrant politicos need to be taken to task for their un-American actions.  that's already happened in several states and at least two have recanted and removed those illegal anti-gun restrictions.  not so far with NJ as it's overwhelmingly a blue state.

this is all the tip of the iceberg looming ahead in these ideological dark times for the USA.

be smart, be safe, be well, be armed.

r.

Much more enjoyable if you have it hooked up to hot and cold water and running through a mixing valve.

Doing fine just south of the mighty Columbia river.  Built some garden boxes for the spouse, I had 5 yards of good mulch in the trailer and truck.   That filled the boxes and then I used it to level out some low spots.

I practice social distance in the shop from my wife.   In the evenings we play Yahtzee or Backgammon.  A dram of whiskey and time for bed.

Our little county had no confirmed cases but were all know they are out there.   No shooting in the near future,  my shooting partners are practicing social distancing.

No fishing,  all the boat ramps are closed,  literally blocked with concrete.

Strange days indeed.

Good luck on the trip home.  I agree on Kingston so far.  My wife Terry and I were there in mid-February visiting my 99 year old Uncle Paul.  Talked to him yesterday and he is hunkered down and feeling fine.  He has a young fella (70 years old) who brings him his groceries.  He lives alone in an apartment so he is isolated.  We are fortunate that both he and my 95 year old mother in law (she lives 10 miles away) are able to live in apartments and take care of themselves otherwise if they were in assisted living we probably wouldn't be allowed to visit.  Everyone take care and stay healthy.

Thanks, Dave.  Glad your uncle is in good health and hope he remains so.  Btw, our range is still open and hasn't cancelled an April 4 shooting match (not smart, but no one asked me!).  Also, 8 auto carrier cars on a n'bound Auto Train derailed the other day:  too early to determine the cause, but no one was injured.  That doesn't exactly inspire confidence, though!

So far in NW Nebraska we're not under a gathering limit at this time - but that could change if the middle to eastern part of the State realizes we exist... Even then I don't know if we could round up enough folks to meet the limit? Just the way I like it.
