Paul, I've never taken any warm up shots with my Rayl barrel Ed made for me... I had Ed put a 1 in 72 twist in it along with .010 depth round bottom rifling... It's 7/8" x 36" long and I made it in caplock configuration (Large Siler Lock)...
I've fed this rifle 3fg, 2fg, and even 1fg, and it'll shoot them all without having to worry about swabbing (in fact, I've never swabbed between any shots with this rifle and that includes when using the 1fg load that I test ran (if I recall I took eleven straight shots with a 45 grain charge under a .018 patch and .395 ball. I truly believe I could have kept going without swabbing even after those 11 shots... I could never do that with my .40 cal Green Mnt Brl...
This was my "pre" Retirement rifle I made 14 or 15 years ago when we started the TMA... It's won its share of medals at State Shoot, but my ol' (Late) friend Jim Potter, he use to knock me down to a 2nd, or 3rd spot Medal finish with his .40 caliber (except on the 50 yard NMLRA Bear Target) at our State ML Shoot... I think the old .40 still has a little left in'er... I hope!!!
