Hello from a Canadian neighbour?

I am a greenhorn with muzzleloading.  My muzzleloader stable includes a PH P63 Artillery short rifle, a LH 54 Flintlock Lyman Deerstalker, and an Investarm 45 RH Percussion wannabe Hawken. 

My bucket list involves NW Trade Guns around the merger of the NWC and HBC Canadian fur trading rivals.

Sure hope your C19 lockdowns are ending.

I live in Calgary Alberta, just north of Montana.  It is a sportsman's paradise.  There isn't much news regarding muzzleloading yet but that is changing as the lockdown is basically over.  The Deerstalker was for hunting but health issues closed that path.  I chose the 54 because flintlock long guns are not subject to gun laws here and our crown land is bear country.

Howdy Bob! It's kinda cool that muzzleloading .makes us brothers, even though I live the entire United States away from you in Texas. Sounds like you are getting your black powder stable stocked up with rifles, and that bucket list is impressive too. I'd like to know/see your accoutrements for them.

So yeah pull up a stump, the coffee is almost always on and there's a clean cup around here somewhere! Lots of folks here abouts to jaw with and plenty that know about trade guns.

Hey Bob, have you ever been to the Hefley Creek Rondy in BC on the Coquihalla pass?

Hefley is my other black powder bucket list plan.  Alberta is considered the Texas of the north.  Lots of rednecks, oil, and cowboys here.  Sadly my accoutrements are a plastic ammo box.  I'm planning, more like dreaming, of a persona of an old militia artillery gunner and use some knockoff of era military kit.  I was a militia gunner in the Royal Canadian Artillery and my maternal grandpa's family farm started from a distant relative who mustered out of the English army and chose to stay in Upper Canada, modern Ontario.  The family farm was a confederation farm in the family before Confederation in 1867.

A welcome from Ohio also!  I drove through Calgary a time or two.  Always wanted to move to Alberta or BC, but with the restrictions to immigration, like needing to have a job lined up but not being allowed to go to Canada to look for that job I never made it.  I got stuck in Gleichen (I think that's the spelling) during a blizzard in '83 on our way from Alaska to visit folks in Michigan.  Interesting little "town."  We did make friends with the police chief from the Indian reservation and some of his cronies after we bought a round of beers for them.  By the time the evening was over I had a standing invitation to come goose hunting which I never did....

Hey Bob, Welcome! Really glad to have ya with us!  I luv your neck of the woods, a truly beautiful part of the world. I had the opportunity to take a grizzly in BC about a half hour or so west of the border with Alberta. That whole region would be a fine place to live in my book. I was up there for a week and saw 53 Black Bears and 7 Grizzlies.

Anyway, make yurself to home. And thanks again for joining this group of reprobates, scoundrels and fine, upright citizens...
