I'd trade one of my rifles for that Baker!  :hairy  :laffing

That guy should have found a different place to sell that. Giving away $7000 is stupid!

But its a really cool rifle.

He's probably happy that he got $5500 more than he thought it was worth but yes, he should have taken it to several other appraisers and maybe sent it to Sotheby's, Christie's or one of the other auction houses with a $18,000 reserve on it.

I would have taken more precautions before firing an old, unknown rifle like that.

Maybe he came to his senses before he actually took the rifle back to that Pawn Shop to conclude the deal.
And the auction houses take cut out of a sale too. I have no idea how much.
The trouble with doing things right the first time is no one realizes how hard it was.
Often, however, the following is more applicable.
I stand corrected, a position somewhat painful to achieve, but once there, is quite satisfying.

There's usually a 20% fee to the seller and the same to the buyer!

Joe, Baker was a master for sure, I've been able to fondle several Baker firearms including a double barrel flinter, all were exquisite! Can you imagine working out that breech?

That's just it, working the breech operation out to be safe... I would almost think this particular breech is more in line with the Ferguson setup / as compared to the trapdoor Springfield... I'm a little surprised there was no provisions for a cleaning rod - so IMHO this wouldn't be a Military conversion - but strictly civilian use.

However, I did see a video of a Military Jager Rifle where the ramrod was carried separate of the rifle on the soldier... I think it was one Cap-n-Ball did, and if I remember right, it was a flintlock.

Interesting for sure!  :bl th up
