.62 smooth bore *shot load*
« on: January 05, 2021, 03:09:35 AM »
Due to what seems to be an increasing interest in smooth bores (here on the forum), I'd like to (once again) bring attention to Skychief's technique for loading shot loads in cylinder bores for tighter patterns at extended ranges.

This Skychief's special load for a 20 ga. cylinder bore is,.... 60 grains 2F,.... followed by one 1/8" hard card,.... followed by 1 ounce of shot,.... followed by an overshot card,.... and topped off with a 1/2" cushion wad that's been soaked in olive oil.

Yep,.... you read that right :bl th up,.... all the load components are TOPPED OFF with a 1/2" fiber cushion wad that's soaked with olive oil.

I've personally played around with this load, and it IS an improvement over (what's been considered the standard way of placing) the cushion wad between the card wad and the shot charge for decades.

So if you'd like to tighten up your shot patterns PLUS gain a few yards,.... you might give Skychief's technique a try.  :bl th up

Thanks for posting this.
I really hadn't consider what or how to load my SB but then again I have to build it first.

Rondo, when you write thin over shot wad do you mean thin card?
Im pretty set on my wasp nesting but still like to play around.
