Just Starting!
« on: January 15, 2022, 07:42:12 PM »
Hi all.  Just found this really great place a few days ago.  I have been shooting blackpowder since 1968.  I started way back then with a Euroarms 1858 Remington Revolver.  Still at it.

Welcome to the fire!  Pull up a toadstool, coffee's hot and feel free to join in on the conversation.

Sounds like you and I started about the same time and the same way; I was sold an 1851 Navy colt replica imported by Dixie, in April of 1968.  The gent gave me a can of FFg, a tin of caps and a bag of balls, and I was hooked.  But there are folks here who have been at this game much longer than me and have lots more knowledge about our sport.  I have learned an awful lot since joining the site!

Howdy Big iron,
Glad to have another enthusiastic member.
I guess I started with this addiction about the summer of 1964.  Then my crazy uncle decided I needed to learn how to shoot guns that threw lots of brass into the air.  After I traded my fatigues for civies again, I bought an 1851 brass frame sheriff's model then an 1858 Remington, then a Renegade and the rest is history.  Dozens and dozens of guns worth of history.  Most of them have since traveled down the road.  Big mistakes doing that.
With all that being said, what you need to know is that the only stupid question is one that is not asked.  And we do all like pictures.
Enjoy the ride, there are a lot of great people here.

Same what he said, especially with those six-shouters you mentioned.

I have owned a bunch of 'em over the years but the interest waxed and wained, and now I find myself going full circle again.....
I have a 1847 Walker. a 1860 Colt, a 1858 Navy "Sheriff's model", and a Ruger Old Army.
Guess ya just can't ever get the Black Powder thingy completely outta your blood, or wash the smell outta your clothes.
Welcome to the Camp!
Pull up a stump and make yerself comfortable.

Thanks for all the kind messages.  I'm glad to be here!  A few months back I had a chance to puchase a NIB Ruger Old Army.  I had one back about 1980 but let it go to a friend on a trade.  MISTAKE!  Nice to have one back.  Even so, I most often would rather shoot a Rem. 1858 or a Colt 1851.   :)
