What will they do? Make Black Powder Pellets? Actually, that might not be far off, model rocket engines are just compressed propellent.
But no, I haven't heard that rumor.

This is the first I've heard this. If they're going to continue with the Goex Black Powder, I'll certainly support them.  :bl th up

The news seems to be spreading fast amongst the forums, but to date there has been no verified proof.  I'll be waiting to see if this all rings true, and if it does I hope will will see a U.S. black powder producer again.

FWIW, I came across this:

"In looking at some of the Rocket forums it appears as though GOEX has long supplied Estes with a rocket propellant substance known as Meal Powder for their engines; so maybe Estes did in fact buy GOEX to ensure a steady supply for their product(s)."

One can only hope that they will also make sporting powder.

I heard about this several days ago but just didn't want to get my hopes up.

I have also heard this rumor, and I was just holding my breath. maybe I was just afraid to breath, or whatever...."when it sounds to good to be true", you know the rest of the story!

I would like very much to hear or read something more definite on their plans for sporting powder.
I fully realize there's plenty good powder out there right now, just no Goex.
And when old fools like myself get something in his head, It's almost like I'm being disloyal by shooting something else.

It's kinda like it belongs in the "If it works, don't fix it" category.

According to Wikipedia ,  Meal powder is the dust left over from the coning process from granulating gunpowder. I would say this rumor would make a lot of sense.

Yes... I recall reading about Meal Powder; seems (way back when) a plant went up when a wagon wheel created a spark on the cobblestone and the dust acted like a fuse and ignited the facility into one big explosion... This was obviously way back during the horse and buggy days - but one still needs to take care in the manufacturing process.

I agree 100% Uncle Russ, not to mention the range time spent working up new loads for all my guns!!!!  Oh wait, that could lead to PHUN! or massive frustration!

.

The rumor is true.

Estes bought GOEX, and the acquisition is listed on a Louisiana government website:

Jim, that working up new loads came into my mind as well...

Then I thought to myself; I've shot other BP and the point of impact wasn't that much different... However, the fouling always seemed to be a bit different, but I write that off to what wood was being used in making it.

To be honest, I'm open to any availability of BP being made here in the good ol' USA. I'll support it.  :shake

What Nessmuk said.
WAIT
I don't have any grandkids.  Oh well, I will get one of their rockets for someone.  And buy a can of their powder when it is available.
