For various reasonsI prefer to use a stout metal or wood ramrod (aka cleaning or wiping rod) both at the range and at local woods walks. However, given the foliage and resulting dim lighting, it's not unusual to leave the ramrod behind as it blends in with the scenery. (Fortunately, my sharp eyed companions find and return mine!). One way to avoid this is to spray paint the rod itself and/or the ball handle if you prefer that, a bright, fluorescent color: Voila! a rod that's readily seen, if not HC/PC.
