How Not To Lose a Ramrod On A Woods Walk
« on: November 21, 2018, 01:01:05 PM »
For various reasonsI prefer to use a stout metal or wood ramrod (aka cleaning or wiping rod) both at the range and at local woods walks.  However, given the foliage and resulting dim lighting, it's not unusual to leave the ramrod behind as it blends in with the scenery.  (Fortunately, my sharp eyed companions find and return mine!).  One way to avoid this is to spray paint the rod itself and/or the ball handle if you prefer that, a bright, fluorescent color:  Voila! a rod that's readily seen, if not HC/PC.

You could also just run the end of the rod thru your belt (assuming you use a belt) like a sword or saber.

Those bright colors do stand out, Maven...  :bl th up

Every year I see more and more folks bringing an extra rod with them down to the Rendezvous shoots. No one to my knowledge has ever complained about anyone doing this, though I expect there are some events it could happen if it's a strict PC event.  As for myself, I've been known to take along a spare rod (tucked in my sash) as one never knows when you might need it, and it's a long walk back to camp to get one. I swear that walk seems to get longer each year, even before and after the shoots... :shake
