Arrow tip
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:54:58 AM »
I have a couple of arrows that the tips came off of. I think they are what's called field points. What kind of glue is used to attach them to the shaft?

A good archery shop will have stick glue made for that purpose, but a high temp hot melt glue will do til you get the good stuff. There may be enough glue left on the shaft end to just  heat it and press it back on. Don't use a butane torch on it!

The best brand is Ferrl-Tite, a hot melt resin that can take the shock and heat of an arrow hitting the target.  Try Google or Yahoo for Traditional archery and you should find a dozen or more sites that carry it.  They will also carry points by the dozen.

About the only source (until I get my source working) for field points is a brand called PDP.  It is sold by nearly all the Trad archery shops. I have had a problem with their points coming loose.  I believe the problem is the residue/coating that is also inside the tapered ferrule than can affect how well the glue sticks.  I have started swabbing all my points with isopropyl alcohol first before installing points and that seems to help a lot.  I have no problem with any brand of glue on broadhead or other points like Judo etc.  I bet the residue is the issue.

If you can't find what you need for glue or points send me a pm.  I don't know if I can beat the big boys price, but I might be able to send you a used stick or less than a dozen points to save some $$ if you need.  When my web site is up and running I hope to have competative prices.

Thanks Fletch but believe it or not, I found both the tips so that isn't a problem. I would imagine Cabelas would have that glue. They are only 2 miles from here so I'll give them a try.

Hank,
Checking Cabela's webb site they do have it. $4.99
a stick. Saw it for 3.99 on another site, but if you have to
drive just 2 miles  :dollar  :shake

Thanks snake eyes. I always thought they were a little too proud of their stuff but it's a great place to walk around in on those days when the weather is too bad to do anything else.
