Folks, y'all gotta start thinking about what matters most in yer trad muzzleloader interests, what that will matter for components, and what that means to you today, next year, and maybe at least a few years down the road.
Are ya interests in the category of newbie, or casual, and/or hooked for life? Wherever you fit in that list, yer gonna need powder - either black powder or sub powder, or both, along with ignition primers of caps and/or flints, along with pure lead (for casters - which is THE way to go rather than buy balls).
Right now, for percussion guns, the big issue will caps, and for flinters it's black powder. This is not to say that sub powder or flints or lead won't also be a concern right now, or even a few months down the road.
Plan ahead. If you only go through a pound - or less! - of whatever flavor powder in a year, it will still pay to buy enough for at least a few years minimum. Dittos for caps, flint, and lead.
The current savings on a 25lb carton of black powder is pretty good at less than $22 or $24 per pound, delivered with all shipping and hazmat fees included. Some vendors such as -
www.addictedtoblackpowder.com - will allow a 25lb case of mixed brands and powder granularities.
Check for folks in your area who are up for a group buy. If there's any left over, it won't be wasted!
